How to Cook crab legs with James Hayduk

Hands preparing lobster on a cutting board.

Every sailor will tell you, there's nothing tastier than fresh crab legs. They're easy to make and only take a few minutes. All you need to do is boil the legs and add a little flavor and the rest takes care of itself. So, get a bib because it's about to get messy and check out this tutorial for making delicious garlic crab legs!

You Will Need:

*Crab (Thawed if purchased frozen)

*Lemon

*2 Cloves of Garlic

*Shrimp Dock Boil Spice (Any brand you prefer will work)

Step 1: Decide how much you need and thaw it

Portions should be a pound to a pound and a half of crab per person depending upon the sides being served with the crab. The crab legs will needed to be completely thawed before cooking takes place.

Step 2: Steam the crab

To steam the crab, add about an inch of water to the bottom of your pot, preferably the deepest one you have.

Add slices of lemon and garlic to the water and a tablespoon of boil spice.

Bring water to a boil and place crab on steamer platform (either a popup steamer, upside down strainer, or even a heat safe bowl).

Add legs to pot and allow to steam for 8-10 minutes or until the crab is warmed through.

Once again this product has already been cooked the main objective of this process is to warm the crab and add some flavor.

Butter Garlic or preferred seasoning

Steps:

Allow butter to come to a simmer on medium high heat. White foam will begin to form on the top. Scoop away the foam and the remaining transparent liquid is your final product.

To add additional flavor garlic and any desired seasoning maybe added at the beginning of the process.

*Note: A little oil may be added at the beginning of the process to help prevent the butter from scorching while coming to heat.
